We've been trying out new shows late

ly, and one that we started was LEGO MASTERS. We didn't have a lot of expectations, and didn't fully know how this show was going to be- more competitive like a cooking show, or would it be more friendly like The Great British Bake-Off?

Well, however you want to classify it, it was awesome. We finished season one with our jaws on the floor from what these contestants could do with Lego, and were kind of inspired to try some things ourselves.

So, on the night we finished season one, and were starting season two, I went on Amazon and ordered a generic starter kit, and some mini figures without telling Drew. The next day, he kept asking if I wanted to go shopping with him, but he was being very vague about where we were going, or what we'd be buying. I just assumed it was likely a new couch or something for the living room space we just finished renovating.

Boy, was I wrong.

We ended up at the mall and went to the Lego store. And he said, "pick one" in referring to one of the kits. I have never felt as much like I was in a movie, than I did in that moment (specifically in Sweet Home Alabama when Patrick Dempsey proposes to Reese Witherspoon by taking her to the jewelry store and saying "pick one" about an engagement ring...)

Anyway, I laughed because I had seen a lot of the kits online, and thought they were too pricy, (which is why I went with a generic box on Amazon) but I had already had a few kits in mind from online:

• The Disney Castle - which after seeing in store, I decided was too complex, and likely more fragile because of the turrets, for a first build

• The Hogwarts Castle - Same issues concerned me with this one, and it wasn't as colorful

• The Venom head - which looked super cool, but it just wasn't feeling as magical as some of the other ones

Then, I ended up in the car section, and fell in love with the Porsche (runner-up was the 007 Aston Martin)

While Drew was deciding on his kit of choice, I wandered over into the "build your own mini figure" area and it was so much fun.

I created 3 mini characters:

Drew was down to his top choices: The Aston Martin, A ship from Star Wars, and a third option I no longer remember.

While it would have been cool if he did a car too, I encouraged him to pick the one he really really wanted, and he ended up choosing an AT-AT kit from Star Wars.

And here's a few progress photos of mine being built:

And here's the final:

We had a ton of fun with this, and will likely do at least one more kit. And this will go down as a very fond memory with Drew. I would definitely recommend LEGO sets and the show LEGO Masters to anyone looking for a fun at-home activity.
